The Gift for the Kids

Oxford

Advent Christian Church

Oxford, Maine

The Gift for the Kids campaign will help Orphan’s of Aids Victims or OAV, in the Africa where the Aids epidemic is critical area and in the Oxford Hills.

The idea was birthed in Frank Jewett, Lead Pastor at the Oxford Advent Christian Church, while attending a leadership summit. There he and other leaders saw a video interview between U2’s lead singer Bono and Pastor Bill Hybels. Bono challenged leaders to join together through the One Campaign to reach the almost 1000 daily new aids orphans in Africa.

"I never liked the church," U2's Bono said in an exclusive interview with Hybels, which was featured at the 2006 Leadership Summit on Friday. But ever since the rock star took a Live Aid trip to Ethiopia two decades ago and revisited the questions raised then on poverty and disease, he's been on a mission to get the world and especially the churches on board to fix what is "fixable.”

The interview pricked the heart of Pastor Frank and other leaders as they were challenged to do something. But it wasn’t enough just to reach across the ocean when kids in the Oxford Hills area were being affected in the Aids Crisis. Based on his vision for reaching Aids orphans across the ocean and locally the Gift for the Kids was born.

Listen to what Pastor Frank wants to do with The Gift in our local area and around the world:

“We have pinned down our two initial beneficiaries. They are World Vision’s project in Africa where 80% of the gift will be used, as well as CAV (Central Africa Vision) where another 10% will be sent. The other 10% will be allocated locally, to the Oxford Hills Center for Ethics and Advocacy in Healthcare.”

Our Goal is to raise $30,000. FMI: Call 539-6024
